My teaching experience at KUD

I love teaching. I feel good when I am around the students. I wish to share my eight years of corporate and media experience. That is why I opted for Ph.D.
I can defend myself by saying I am a born teacher. Thanks to my sister at the early age she began taking tuition classes for students residing in Bagalkot Government Hospital Quarters. I was in High School. She was a very strict teacher.
One day she went to attend a function without informing the class. In the evening students came on time with full attendance. My Dad was upset and told me to fill in. I agreed. Trust me, students remember me for teaching values, making them realise their inner potential to take on any burden.
I continued teaching while pursuing BBA at Basaveshwar Commerce College. When I was in final year I used to see my juniors roaming around and wasting time. I sought permission from the Principal and began teaching. Not the subject but on general knowledge, business quiz etc. Even while pursuing Journalism I continued the same.
My mantra is look beyond syllabus. I am not saying syllabus is not important. How different are you as a teacher? Everyone is in a hurry to complete syllabus. My question is along with syllabus what value added service from your side is.
I am proud that I had an opportunity to share my ideas and thoughts with four batches of students at KUD. I began or end my class with stories.
I teach phrases/idioms, new words to improve their vocabulary, questions on competitive exams like NET/SLET/Ph.D.
To build teacher-student relationship I wrote letter to the parents for compulsory buying radio handsets. As it is rightly said, listening leads to speaking. I am a good listener. I have been listening to All India Radio (AIR) since my college days.
In fact, when I realised that the electronic media students are very poor in self-introduction in English. I wrote few sentences for them and made them to practice on a daily basis. I am very surprised that they were ignoring the translation which is the need of the hour for a journalist.

I have to admit, I am going to miss my students.
